Thoughts on Hebrews 4:14-16

Hebrews 4:14-16

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we possess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are -- yet without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Think about this....Have you ever been deeply hurt and wanted so much for someone else to just understand how deeply it hurt? Have you noticed that people don't know what to do with you? They just don't comprehend it? We really can't count on other people to be sympathic or compassionate. They just don't get it, do they? Or even if they do, they can only handle you for a short time.

But not Jesus Christ.....he can and does sympathize with our weaknesses. When I say weaknesses, what I am talking about is the weakness you feel in reaction to that hurt. If you have been hurt deeply enough, you know what I am talking about. Many times that weakness is anger.

I love what Beth Moore says, "Unlike, people, Christ is never intimidated by the depth of our need and the demonstration of our weakness." He is not shocked with our response...As He has been tempted to react in the same ways. Yet, He did not sin in His response. This gives me hope...I, too, and you, as well can be victorious. If you have blown it....His mercy is great and you can follow him at this point. There is grace, this will help us in our time of need.
